Today I want to share with you my Dollar Store Coaster Redo. This project was so easy, and I am so happy with the results. I was actually pleasantly surprised at how they turned out. This is what the coasters looked like when I bought them from the dollar store (1.00/each) BUT they already come backed with cork board - so that's a plus.
[BEFORE]
Okay, nothing wrong with these coasters, just not quite the theme I am trying to go with :)
Here are my coasters:
[AFTER]
Alright, here is what you'll need...
Supplies:
Coasters (x4)
Mod Podge
Paint Brush
Scrapbook Paper
Directions:
1. Wipe off your coasters - trace your coasters onto your choice of scrapbook paper
2. Cut out your squares
3. Apply a thin/even layer of mod podge to the coaster
4. Firmly press your scrapbook paper square on the coaster - evenly to assure no bubbles
5. Once that is dried (a few minutes) Add a layer of mod podge over the scrapbook paper.
*I aded about 3 layers of mod podge over the scrapbook paper*
(be sure to let each layer dry before applying the next layer)

Very nice! Seems like such an easy, thrifty way to change the look and I'm sure if you tire of them, you can always just re-do them! I like the paper you used too ~ Thanks for sharing your thriftiness :) Judi
ReplyDeleteThank you, Judi! Thrifty is always good, isn't it? I hadn't even though about that, but I suppose you could just add a different design over top of that! great idea :)

Love this with the scrapbook paper! Just a tip, I made similar coasters before, and I found that it's best to use some sort of clear spray paint/sealer over the mod podge. I didn't on my first set, and every time I put a cup with condensation on the coaster, the cup stuck to the coaster and it ruined a couple of them when I pulled it off :(
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea, thank you!! I should probably do that.

What a great idea! They're so cute! I never thought to re-cover coasters!
ReplyDeleteThanks Allison! It's so fun, too, because you can pick from a zillion different scrapbook papers. Which is the hardest part! Lol :)

Hi! Found your site through the Aloha Friday link up (I'm @ #116) I love your blog, the style, your content- everything. I'm definitely going to be a frequent visitor. Isn't the dollar store the best?? Your DIYs are great. Love the scrapbook paper you used on the coasters. I'm really into the vintage label look- where did you find it?
ReplyDeleteHi, Meg! Thank you for following along! The scrapbook paper I used was from a booklet of different designs called "The Good Life". Its a 12x12 textured, 48 sheets of cardstock. I got it on sale for 5.00 at our local Craft Warehouse, but the company has a website as well. Fancypantsdesigns.com

This is such a cute idea! I made a set of photo coasters last Christmas for parents and grandparents and I sprayed a clear sealant on after the Mod Podge dried. They get nice and hard and the moisture doesn't seep through to mess up the pretty paper. I think I'll have to try a set out for myself with some scrapbook paper like yours. Visiting from Serenity Saturday...have a great weekend!

Live Well. Love Well. Be Well.
Great idea with the clear sealant, I think I will have to add that to mine. Good idea to give them as Christmas presents too! Thanks for visiting :)
