Top 5 Pinterest Cleaning Tricks I've Tried & Loved

Hey everyone! I know that sometimes things on Pinterest are hit and miss. I've tried several tricks that claim to make life easier... but in reality make me want to gauge my eyeballs out in frustration. I have had a few hits, so I decided to share some of them with you guys.

1. This method for cleaning a stainless sink by The Happy Home. You spray the sink down with vinegar, sprinkle on baking soda and let sit. Rinse with boiling water. Then you wipe it all down, and scrub with some more vinegar. Here is the trick: spray the sink down with goo-gone. I let it sit for a little bit, and then wiped it off. It literally took a layer of grime off my sink! You then buff the sink with a little bit of olive oil. My sink looked fantastic!

2. Magic Erasers. Apparently they are miracle workers. I can testify that they are wonderful, but I'm pretty sure they don't do everything Pinterest claims they do- like remove rings from the toilet by just floating in the water! They work amazingly well on sinks, baseboards, showers, counters, tile, linoleum, and windowsills. Do not use them on anything painted though, as it very finely rubs a layer off! Here is a good post from CleanMama.

3. I'm not sure where I saw or heard this, but using a cheapo handled sponge dish scrubber (the ones you can put dish soap into) to clean the shower. You just put some cleaner into the wand, and leave it in the shower! You wipe/scrub when you're in the shower and you hardly ever have to deep clean the shower! This isn't the original post I saw about this idea, but she has a cute picture of the scrubber I'm talking about.

4. I never knew all the uses of a dryer sheet. Here's an awesome post with lots of different ways to use a dryer sheet (that's already been used!). I love the idea of not wasting, but they actually are remarkable at cleaning baseboards. Also, when I was in middle school, I learned the dryer sheet trick for getting static out of my hair. I used to keep one in my pocket. :)

5. My swiffer. The swiffer is not a Pinterest purchase, but the idea of having a reusable swiffer cover was! I've seen several variations of this. I have a knitted one that my Mom made, and I also just attach a regular ol' dishcloth. My whole house is tiled, so this makes cleaning them up a breeze. I just walk around with a spray bottle and quickly wipe up any spots.

Those all the winners I've tried so far. Let me know if you've tried any of these tricks, or if you have any more that I need to have in my life. I'm always up for making my house sparkle with less effort ;)

We hope you're having an awesome start to your week. Be sure to check out Kayla's recipe for tomorrow's What We Eat Wednesday!

  1. Have you tried "Barkeeper's Friend"? The manufacturers of glass cook tops recommend it and it can be used on most anything that is not painted. Combined with a Magic Eraser it is extra amazing. They just came out with a formula for pots and pans that made my old Revere Ware have new life. About $3 at Winco. Love to spend time on your blog (-:

  2. I'm really glad you've had good luck with the tips you've found on Pinterest as all of the ones I have used so far did absolutely NOTHING. I have the supplies I purchased to try one more... I'll let you know if it works.

Did you actually try all of these tips? (I'd like you to be the guinea pig, not me.) *smile*
